We are like stones that tumble down rivers and streams…We are born, and as we grow and live life we develop sharp edges and rough spots. As we are tossed and tumbled in our experiences of life, those sharp edges and rough spots are sanded and smoothed, much like the stones and rocks are polished and made smooth by their somersaults downstream. It’s not a gentle process, but neither are many of the experiences that life has for us.
We learn from our experiences, and hopefully polish away the rough places and smooth over the sharpest edges. Then and only then, are we in the place of truly helping others as they are tossed and tumbled by the river of life. We have become the polished, smooth, radiant and beautiful rock resting in a quiet pool amidst the churning river called life.
