The holiday season can be an emotionally tricky time for many people. The first year after my divorce was my first Christmas eve without my sons, and I was an emotional wreck. A friend invited me to join her at a family friends’ house for Christmas eve dinner, so I gratefully accepted the invitation.  That evening was a gift.

Every year since then, I have received a Christmas card from Alice and her lovely family (my hosts that night) wishing me a joyous holiday and letting me know that I am always welcome to join them on Christmas eve. I am deeply grateful for this small kindness, and I love that she remembers how much it meant to me to be included in their celebration that night. The little kindnesses DO matter, so don’t hold back on them.  My heart fills with love when I think of this family, and I send them their card every year with a heart felt “thank you.”
