So, here’s an odd little moment from my birthday morning:
I was deep in a dream — the kind that feels important — when a random number FaceTimed me at 5 AM. Not a phone call. Not a birthday surprise. Just a number I didn’t recognize, ringing me awake out of nowhere.
Now… I have a spam blocker on my phone.
Unknown numbers never ring through.
They go straight to voicemail.
So why did this one get through?
The answer is strangely simple — and strangely symbolic.
✨ FaceTime doesn’t follow the rules.
This is the science part:
Most spam blockers (including the iPhone’s Silence Unknown Callers) only filter phone calls — not FaceTime.
FaceTime calls behave like “internet traffic,” so:
- they bypass the spam filter
- they ring even if the number isn’t in your contacts
- they slip through even if your phone is set to silence everything unknown
So this wasn’t my spam blocker failing.
It was FaceTime ignoring all boundaries by design.
Which… suddenly feels like the theme of my dream.
✨ Timing-wise, the brain was in its most vulnerable state.
Between 4–6 AM, the brain is shifting from deep sleep into the cortisol awakening phase.
Our neurological “gatekeeper” relaxes.
The boundary gets thinner.
We’re easier to wake.
So the call didn’t just slip through my phone’s defenses — it slipped through my brain’s as well.
Science, yes…
but it also felt like a metaphor.
✨ My dream that night was all about boundaries.
In the dream, people were literally in my bedroom — moving my things, crowding my space, rearranging parts of my life without asking.
I woke up furious, aware, and crystal clear that this was a dream about reclaiming my internal home.
So of course, right as I’m deep inside that symbolic work…
The one kind of call that can bypass every filter I have
comes straight through at 5 AM.
It’s almost comical.
✨ So here’s what I’m taking from it:
Yes, the interruption has a completely logical explanation.
But the timing?
The symbolism?
The way the dream and the waking moment mirrored each other?
That’s the part that felt meaningful.
Boundaries.
Vulnerability.
Old patterns slipping in.
Me catching it immediately.
Me choosing differently.
Even my phone reflected what my dream was trying to say:
Not everything gets to enter your space anymore.
And if something bypasses your defenses,
you wake up — quickly — and you reclaim your room.
It was the most unintentional birthday initiation.
But honestly?
Perfect timing.
